About the Artist
David Knapp
b. 1937; Manhattan, New York, United States
David Knapp is a 1959 graduate BSME from Lehigh University who initially worked for the B&O Railroad before serving as a US Army Ordinance Officer supplying nuclear weapons to the field artillery during the escalation of the Cold War.
In 1962, Knapp began his foundry career in Pittsburgh, mastering the mechanics of manufacturing some of the largest steel castings in the world. After decades in shop operations, staying ahead of the wave of foundry closings, Knapp settled into business development and now has spent 15 years with a family owned iron foundry in Calera, Alabama.
Well beyond traditional retirement, Knapp travels much of North America on company business and combines his passions for foundry history and large industrial paintings.
Knapp currently resides in New Albany, Ohio as he continues to create this body of work preserving seldom seen images of what may eventually be a vanishing industry.
